Coldwater Solar Construction Update - July 2025

Happy July from the Coldwater Solar team!

The construction team has been making steady progress towards completing their work this year on Coldwater Solar. To date, more than 600 individual workers have been on site to support the project's construction. We're grateful to our contractor partners at Barton Malow and Conti, as well as our partners in labor from the Carpenters & Millwrights, Electrical Workers, and Laborers unions, to name a few.
Construction Progress Update
  • Final Panel Installation: So far, 80% of the project's modules have been installed. Install crews are now working south of Lockwood road in Ovid township. We expect the remaining solar panels to be installed by the end of July.
  • Wiring Installation: Crews continue connecting panels together and managing connection of the panels to the inverters. This work is approximately 50% complete, and trails behind the installation of the modules themselves.
  • Project Substation: Work on the project substation is nearly complete, which will transmit power generated from the solar project to the regional electric grid via a new utility switchyard.

Upcoming Activities:

  • Fence Gates: The perimeter fence gates are in the process of being installed throughout the project, securing the facility as we prepare for commercial operations later this year.
  • Temporary Parking Lot Removal/Access Road Caps: The temporary parking lots at various arrays are being removed, with the gravel from the lots being used to cap the internal access roads. The lot areas will be decompacted and restored for the landowners and returned to farming or other uses.
  • Testing & Commissioning: As arrays are completed, access will be restricted to crews with proper electrical training for testing and commissioning.
