Coldwater Solar represents a significant economic development opportunity for Coldwater and Ovid Townships and the broader Branch County community. With a materials and labor investment in excess of $167 million expected for construction alone, Coldwater Solar is projected to provide a significant boost in local wages and spending during both the construction process and throughout 30 years of operations, including:

  • Over 300 direct full-time jobs created during construction
  • Over 250 additional transportation, supply chain, and induced jobs created by increased local spending.
  • Over $21 Million in new local tax revenue over the 30-year life of the project.
  • Over $58 Million in new economic output Branch County from Coldwater Solar, including construction and operations wages, landowner payments, and new local tax revenue.

Report was completed in 2020 and assumed 2020 millage levels extended through the life of the project and the construction of a 150 MW utility-scale solar project located in Coldwater and Ovid Townships in Branch County, MI. Impacts may increase or decrease based on actual cost of construction and tax rates over the project's lifetime.
