Meet the Coldwater Solar Project Team


Brian O’Shea

Public Engagement Manager, Apex Clean Energy

Brian lead's Apex Clean Energy's public and community engagement efforts for projects throughout Michigan. Brian began his career organizing in rural communities in North Dakota and throughout Minnesota before moving to the private sector in 2013, where he worked as a consultant to numerous businesses, trade associations, nonprofits, and advocacy groups across the country on issues ranging from education policy to workforce development to clean energy. Brian was excited to join Apex Clean Energy as a public engagement manager in 2019. In this capacity, he works closely with local elected leaders, community leaders, landowners, and residents to gather local feedback, answer common questions, and work with communities to help realize their opportunities for renewable energy development and accelerate America’s shift to clean energy.

Colin Kummerfeldt

Project Developer, Apex Clean Energy

Colin Kummerfeldt works as a Michigan-based developer for solar projects. Colin was born and raised in Howell Michigan and attended Howell High School prior to attending Western Michigan University, where he earned a degree in Political Science focused on American Public Policy.  Prior to joining the Apex team, Colin worked in Michigan’s State Senate as a scheduler and special events organizer for one of Michigan’s thirty-eight senators. Colin also has experience with local townships through job shadowing with a local assessor’s office. Colin will work with landowners, local supporters, and community stakeholders to help answer questions and inform members of the community about the project.

Ryan Carrigan

Michigan Field Manager, Apex Clean Energy

Ryan grew up in Southwest Michigan and is a graduate of Kalamazoo College. He began his career working in the Michigan State Legislature and later developed an expertise in land use issues working on economic development, housing, and transportation issues for municipalities, Chambers of Commerce, and the Association of REALTORS. Ryan also has extensive experience working through the entitlement process, advocacy, and outreach. When not on duty for Apex he serves as a township Zoning Administrator in Kent County.

Connor Podkul

Project Developer, Apex Clean Energy

Connor grew up in Northwest Indiana and graduated from La Porte High School prior to attending Purdue University. He later earned a master’s degree in Geospatial Data Analysis with a focus on renewable energy from University College Dublin. Prior to joining Apex, he worked in the nonprofit sector for a botanical garden in Indiana. Connor now works out of Charlottesville, Virginia, but averages several weeks a month in Michigan working on solar projects and engaging with project stakeholders.
